PRESENTATION GUIDELINES

What session am I in?

The concurrent sessions are divided into the following sessions: a) regular, b) special, c) speed, d) Pesca-Pecha, e) Science Café, f) Talk Circles, and g) e-poster. Please check the program to see in which session you will be presenting and refer to the respective guidelines below.

How much time do I have to present?

If you are part of the regular session, you will have either 12 minutes or 8 minutes to present your talk. If you are presenting in the special session, the length of your presentation time will depend on the format specified by the organizer. If you are allocated to a speed session, you will have 5 minutes to talk. Those presenting as part of the Pesca-Pecha session will have 6 minutes and 40 seconds.

Is there a template for presentations?

We do not have a 3WSFC template for slide presentations, so you can use any layout you feel most comfortable with. We do have a template for e-poster presentations, which you can find in the 'e-poster' sub-section below.

Where do I upload my presentation?

All presentations must be uploaded onto our computer system, via a USB drive, at least half an hour before the actual presentation takes place. Presentations need to be uploaded onto the computer located in the exact conference room in which the presenter will give a talk. A member of the secretariat will be available for assistance. Please keep in mind that there will be no internet connection in the conference rooms.

GUIDELINES

What is 'Pesca-Pecha'?

'Pesca-Pecha' started off as a success at the 2WSFC in Merida in 2014, and it is modelled after the original PechaKucha event.

How much time do I have to present?

If you are part of the Pesca-Pecha session, you will have 6 minutes and 40 seconds to present your talk. Each presenter will prepare 20 slides which will be set to automatically change after 20 seconds each so that it runs like a slide show.

Is there a template for slide presentations?

We do not have a 3WSFC template for slide presentations. However, please make sure that your Pesca-Pecha presentation has 20 visually-appealing slides with no or limited text set for transitioning after 20 seconds each. In order to do that, in your PowerPoint, go to Transitions tab > Timing group > Duration box, and type the number of seconds that you want (20 seconds). Then, click Apply to All, so all the slide show's transitions to use the same speed.

Where do I upload my presentation?

The Pesca-Pecha presentations must be uploaded onto our computer system, via a USB drive in advance, by the end of the day before the actual presentation takes place so that we can check that everything runs smoothly and for us to load all the talks in the computer. Please note that we will follow the order shown in the program and we will save all the questions/discussion to after the last presentation in the session.

GUIDELINES

How does the Science Café work?

The Science Café session will last 2 hours in total and will include about 12 teams. The first hour will be a plenary session, followed by another hour in which teams or projects will be assigned tables for continuing the conversation with a smaller audience. The Science Café session will take place in one open space, with all cafes happening at the same time. The audience will move from one cafe to the other at their own pace.

How much time do I have to present?

Presenters will be allocated 5 minutes to 'pitch' about their team or project at the plenary session. During the second hour of Science Café, the team will have the opportunity to continue the conversation about their team or project and interact with a smaller audience gathered around a science café table.

Is there a template for slide presentations?

Presenters are welcome to use a PowerPoint presentation during their 5-minute pitch at the first hour of the Science Café. We do not have a 3WSFC template for slide presentations, so you can use any layout you feel most comfortable with. During the second hour of the Science Café, teams or projects are encouraged to share information in an informal and conversational manner, without PowerPoint presentations.

What equipment will be available for the Science Café?

During the second hour, each Science Café will be given a table and a flip chart. You are also welcome to decorate your table, including bringing banners and other material. When planning your session for the second hour, please keep in mind that you will not have access to a screen, projector or microphone.

GUIDELINES

What is a Talk Circle?

Talk Circles allow congress participants to discuss a variety of issues pertaining to small-scale fisheries around the word in a more informal manner.

What will we be discussing in the Talk Circles?

The issues discussed around a ‘talk circle’ have been put forward by fishers and the circles will, in most cases, also be led by fishers. If you are fisherperson and would like to suggest a ‘talk circle’ topic, email us at 3wsfcongress@gmail.com. The full list of topics will be shared closer to the congress

Will I need to prepare a presentation?

As the name suggests, Talk Circles are all about sharing information in an informal and conversational manner, without PowerPoint presentations.

What is an e-poster?

Images, graphs, and tables: are allowed and must be embedded in your file and have titles. Be careful to respect copyright and personal anonymity with your images or photos

Videos, animated GIF files, audio, hyperlinks: are NOT allowed

Formulas: if any, please convert formulas to images.

A note to Apple Macintosh users: Please do not use “drag-and-drop” to insert pictures into Microsoft PowerPoint files, as graphs and images would not be displayed properly. Using the INSERT command from the menu will virtually eliminate these issues.
